11/03/2011 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 14/03/2011

Well hello followers,

Here we are at the end of another winter season in the Canaries and completing our last maintenance period. The weather has been a mixed bag over the winter with some lovely sunny days and torrential down pours. All the voyage crew have gone home smiling having hopefully had an experience of their life.

This last maintenance has seen me nicknamed captain "Needle Gun", and wins the prize for creating the most amount of noise aboard the ship. But on the positive side we have completed painting the outside of the  bulwarks with a more hard wearing epoxy paint and completely striped all the paint from the inside of the bulwarks on the port side to recoat with epoxy paint. So the ship is half looking really good and we need your help back in Southampton to complete this mammoth task before the joint birthday party on the 16th April. I hope you all have purchased your tickets.

I would like to say a huge vote of thanks from all the permanent crew for all the hard work that the maintainers have done over the last twelve months.

Yesterday we gave the maintainers time off for good behaviour and I organised a bus tour around the island. This was well received and gay Oulton who some of you may know acted as guide. In the evening to say thank you to our local supporters and the maintainers we enjoyed the delights of Marco, Alex and Marcin cooking on the ship’s BBQ. A splendid evening was had by all.

The new crew join tomorrow in preparation for the passage back to cold old England. So take care and we look forward to seeing you all sail aboard Lord Nelson over the coming months.

Neil Duncan

Captain
