12/02/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 14/02/2012

We sailed through the night, the challenge being speed versus direction. And speed won... Beautiful sail all morning. Majority of the F/S watch taking advantage of quiet time. Awoke to most of the sails being handed.

Motored in with the majestic view of the Pitons on our bow, welcomed by dolphins. Quite a lot of us got to see the green flash only very briefly visible at sunset. Plan was to pick up prearranged buoy at Anse des Pitons.
Sadly, the bouy was a figment of Benny's imagination. Spent time taking in the view (dark at night, dramatic, while testing Captain Barbara's skills and patience).

We came around to Soufriere bay and dropped anchor in a depth of 70 meters, under the watchful eyes fish-eating bats.

After all excitement, a peaceful evening, taking in the view of picturesquely lighted small town scrambling up the mountains.
Night wa\tch highlight was plotting, using the radar, a fender that got away. It circled the ship with the tide but it's position was lost at 3.45am!!
