14/05/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 15/05/2012

May 14th day 29
We awoke to bright sunshine and after breakfast had a short window of
opportunity to go ashore before the pilot joined us and we prepared to sail
away from St Helier. We had been joined by three new crew members, one from
the JST and two Sky News cameramen.

As Jersey became more distant, the clouds gathered and the wind began to
strengthen. Initially, we motored but before long we were able to set sail.
Letting loose the gaskets was not exactly a breeze because the sea became
choppy, and the wind was strong and blustery. The next few hours were grey
and rainy. However, by 7 o'clock in the evening the front had gone through
and beyond a line of cloud was blue sky and a more moderate wind. We were
set fair for a reasonably gentle night's sailing, bound for Blighty and the
Hampshire coast line.
