14/07/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 17/07/2012

We came off the high seas, chased by pirates, to avoid engagement with the notorious Black Pearl. Our female captain and crew, with a token gesture of menfolk, turned into the River Seine to enjoy the idyllic French countryside. We docked in a small picturesque town named Caudebec, where we were greeted warmly by the Mayor, and the local people. They were delighted by our arrival as it has been four years since the last tall ship had berthed there. Although we have a chef who worked on the QE2 and produces delicious fare, we decided to spend the evening ashore, congregated in a local restaurant where some of our crew tried some local, delicious horse meat and snails. We enjoyed the local hospitality for the day, looking around the shops and taking in the beautiful historic buildings, including a magnificent cathedral-like church.
We left port in the safe hands of the French pilot and cruised back along the calm waters of the river for a most memorable, picture-perfect day's sailing, with a growing anticipation for the big sails launching into action post 4pm.
Watch out pirates - here we come!
