Back to the ship update blog
15/01/12 - Tenacious
Dated: 16/01/2012
It is now 5 days since we last saw a ship and have only heard the briefest
snippets of news from the outside world. We are now well over halfway, 1850
nautical miles completed and 1000 or so still to go. About another week if
we continue to make the excellent progress of the past few days with the NE
trade wind a steady Force 5/6 on our starboard quarter giving us 6 to 7
knots. The weather remains fine and a small group of worshippers gathered on
the foredeck for a simple inter-denominational service. Daily life now has a
simple reassuring routine but there is an increasing restlessness and
speculation about our likely landfall enlivened by the sweepstake for the
distance logged to our fist point of contact with the New World.
Shipmates who have sailed this way before are feeding our sense of eager
anticipation with tales of the attractions of the various islands. Big
Papa's bar and the trip up Indian River in Dominica seems to be a
particular favourite.
Maybe this time next week.
