Back to the ship update blog
15/05/12 - Tenacious
Nearly there! After a beautiful sunny stopover in Jersey we have had a lively and chilly passage to the Solent where we are now anchored and the last harbour stows of the voyage completed, It will seem strange saying goodbye to the friends with whom we have been in close company for a month, but pleasant to get back to families and friends back home, We are now waiting for the engineers' barbeque, although we may be wearing oilskins for the occasion. Then we'll have the shipboard opera tonight where we anticipate laughter in all the unintended places.
Tomorrow we motor into Southampton for the final leg of the voyage, so goodbye one and all.
Colin and the aft port watch.
The evening barbeque went well despite the very cold wind across the deck, or maybe it was the engineer's special punch that warmed us all up so well An excellent auction was conducted by BM Mike Van Barren and a handsome sum of nearly £900 was made together with "Guess the total mileage"(3388 nautical miles) and "Guess the weight of our hero Bill"
Following this the voyage crew gave an excellent SODS opera.
The evening closed with smiles and laughter while some of the crew did an anchor watch and others took to their bunks The morning of 16th saw great activity while bags were packed following a continental breakfast.
The more than usual HAPPY HOUR started as the ship raised Her anchor to make the last lap home down the Solent The captain gave her final chat to the voyage crew congratulating them on helping to bring the ship safely across the Atlantic.
Hammie presented her last meal for the trip as "SMUNCH" meaning a combination of breakfast and lunch.
When the meal was over the dock side could be seen with excited relatives waving welcome back flags.
Soon all the goodbyes were said and the ship was empty aahhh (apart from the permanent crew)
