Back to the ship update blog

16/05/12 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 17/05/2012

A beautiful sunny day at Cherbourg Harbour. Anchored nearby last night and stayed there overnight. Then after a fantastic breakfast provided by Dave the cook we sailed into Cherbourg this morning. Sian helmed us safely into the harbour.
One of our crew members, Ken, did a grand job helping with the fenders.
We are all waiting in anticipation for Lesley the bosun and Graeme , one of the voyage crew to dye their hair bright pink as long as we all sponsor them to raise money for JST! They were going to do it tonight but most of the crew have cleared off to Cherbourg. Lesley and I have the role of NOB and NOBette this evening, which stands for Night on Board and their assistant.
So she's now going to wait until tomorrow to do it in front of her cheering audience. Captain Chris has asked her not to drop pink dye on his ship!
All the watches are getting to know each other well now and I frequently hear lots of laughter and banter amongst them all, which is how it should be!
Talking of banter I found an inflatable pink dragon in my bed last night!
Nothing whatsoever to do with Uncle John and Alan the Boson's Mate...!
I'm getting used to my new role as Medical Purser, thanks massively to MP Jane who not only gave me a fantastic shadowing voyage in February, but also left me with a brilliant folder of instructions on how to do things complete with an index at the front. She really has covered everything and is an absolute star!
Well we sail back to the UK tomorrow so let's hope for good weather.
I can't believe the week is going so quickly, it really has been brilliant!

Marilyn, MP.
