17/02/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 20/02/2012

So the sea was calm as we all watched the Auzura, which some of us had thought was a block of flats, slowly sail past us. Each looking at the other wondering what it was like. With a qick Mexican wave from us the Dotty boat was launched and the the four lines men landed on the quay. We had arrived in Roussea, Dominica, at 17.OO and the light was slowly changing to that ehteral Carribean dusk. Not much cloud but even so the elusive green flash as the sun disappeared over the horizon was at last seen, Ronan had told us of this green flash and it was spectacular. Next day bright and early assisted climbs up the mast and then down again. Smoko and then on the coaches to the falls of Johnny Depp fame and swam in rather cold but invigorating pool of water through an amazing deep narrow gorge , lying on your back looking up through foliage to the bright blue sky above. Certain members of the group climbed up the waterfall to the next pool. After a splendid packed lunch the next trip was to the sulphur pools. Brill. In the evening having watched the bosun put on drag we had supper overlooking the bay. Very strong rum punches and good food and company. Friday morning dawned. Sea gentle. Whilst doing yoga, dolphins and a shoal of little fish spotted. Soft gentle rain which cleared to reveal a hot morning ahead. A couple of lobster pots spotted on the port side so course altered. Now about to have lunch ( food is out of this world) as we sail towards to Iles des Saints where we will drop anchor at five ( having hoisted the sails after
lunch) and then swim off the ship.

Ronan has asked for us to wish his Nephew Fionnan a happy 1st Birthday :)
