18/03/2013 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 18/03/2013

The water temperature is 28 degrees, the air temperature is 30 degrees. This is how we imagined the Indian Ocean would be!

Half time oranges on watch and some serious sunbathing down on deck. Andy and Joyce have been sprinkling together on the bridge – with watering cans to keep the wood from drying out. Nick’s sandals have been tested to the limits and finally lost their soul – off to find some superglue!

The birds that kept us company for over 1000 miles have long since been left behind but as we come within 100 miles of Mauritius we have seen large masked booby's that resemble gannets; white tropic birds with long fine tails looking like paper fluttering over the water, and some smaller black birds as yet unidentified.

St Patrick’s Day was celebrated in fine style last night with shamrocks, Guinness and lots of green attire, and feasting on beef and ale pie. Mmmmm.

Made good use of Wadi’s sailing skills making 3.7 knots in light airs while Chris and Nick worked away at the brass work on the bridge – it’s like a hall of mirrors up here. All looking forward to sighting land and a swim in Mauritius tomorrow.

Yours warmly,

Bette, Joyce, Wadi, Andy, Nick and Chris.
