19/02/2011 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 21/02/2011

A steady night has found us off south Gran Canaria again . Gliding into the anchorage in the mid afternoon, first mate Chris called all hands to bathe as one by one the crew threw, jumped, bombed and timidly lowered themselves into the sea; with help from a team on deck to lower the adventurous wheelchair users into the crystal blue water – for some this was a new experience! Having successfully avoided the great white terrors of the deep, Cookie Dave called all hands to the fantastic "Bootneck Barbeque" -  a fantastic effort from the galley team, the engine room Kens and the boys from 40 Commando Royal Marines who excelled themselves with providing a fun filled evening of food, music and the (Jubilee Sailing Trust) world famous engineer’s punch. As the memorable night drew on, we were greeted by the most amazing moonrise people had ever seen -  a glowing orange ball gliding above the horizon, lighting the sky a pale orange and reflecting off the ships tugging at their anchors in the bay below. As the evening wore on, a wide range of music drifted from the on-deck speakers, with DJ in the house Andy competing with folky Chris and Craig for airtime while Michelle fought to keep everybody happy with regular doses of a certain Whale Song which has left bosun Lesley hunting for more tracks online…
