20-10-12 - Lord Nelson STW1

Dated: 20/10/2012

We awoke to our first morning and couldn't believe we are really on the trip but it also already feels like home and quite normal. Hands aloft to first platform and out on the Topsail yard. Lots of first time JST voyagers couldn't believe they were going aloft so soon and how great it is. It's just as exciting for old hands. All busy on mooring stations leaving Dock Gate 10 and moving to the QE2 terminal ready for the Bon Voyage party. Party frocks, make up, hair dryers abounded - and not just the girls. Last time we will be doing that for a bit. What a reunion for old timers meeting up with former shipmates and an grand event for newbies. Marine Al Henderson (now affectionately known as Big Al) was presented with 'The Baton' which is the handle from a lightweight military stretcher used in Afghanistan, and is the symbol to show the nation's support of our services. See www.thebaton.co.uk. All off for an 'early night' though to be ready for the big day tomorrow.
