Back to the ship update blog

24/02/2011 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 25/02/2011

Evening followers. Young leaders of the sea here to update you on our first group task set by Lesley: Hoist a bucket of water up the main mast, across to the foremast and down to the deck again…No problem.

We had a 'foolproof’ plan within minutes and after a miniature run through we set a time limit of 20 minutes. After going aloft portside we noticed the yard was…in the way to say the least. After being reminded of the existence of the starboard side we calmly changed tactic and put our plan into action only to have it obstructed by the clewlines, buntlines, braces, stays, sheets, gravity etc..already half an hour behind schedule in true Irish form we refused to give up and politely invited Lesley to take her lunch on deck to observe our feat. An hour and ten minutes over schedule, after using a pully mechanism, the bucket made it to the foremast and was hoisted down to the deck. We all sighed with relief as our "baby" had made it safely and celebrated once our feet were on solid ground again. Much thanks to the mate Chris for his support, i.e. laughing at our pathetic starting attempts! And to Lesley for believing in us enough to corden of the decks for fear of falling buckets. Slan go foill.

Xoxo
