Confessions of a Bosun: it’s all my fault!
We spent last night in La Palma, giving a last night of shore leave in the Canaries, before we were due to head north to The Azores this morning.
We arrived in La Palma at 5pm yesterday and, as it was Marcin the Second Mate’s 30th birthday yesterday, after lots of silly prezzies, we all went out for a meal ashore.
Anyway, back to it all being my fault…
Today opened cloudy but warm, ideal for the voyage photo and assisted climbs. During the latter, I felt a 'twang’ and suddenly found myself only able to hobble down the rigging. Marcin took over with the climbs whilst I went to see Tony, the Medical Purser. A soft tissue injury to my left calf muscle was diagnosed, as was the need for a new Bosun. Cue frantic phone calling to find a relief Bosun, (Jim to the rescue) and another day to enjoy La Palma for the Voyage Crew.
So, sadly, I’ll be flying home tomorrow to rest my leg for several weeks.
Lesley, the broken Bosun.
