24/03/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 02/04/2012

TNS 398
Bahamas - Bahamas

A new crew joined Tenacious throughout the day of the 24th march. They were greeted by sunny blue skies and sandy beaches that are found in Nassau.
There were various cruise ships berthed near to us - including the Disney cruise ship. After a brief safety talk and an introduction to the permanent crew, it was time for dinner on deck. Then there was shore leave for the weary but miraculously revived crew at the thought of a rum punch (or two).
Day 2 Sunday the 25th was a busy day with lots of different safety and rope training. Those who wanted to give it a go had the opportunity to climb to the first platform and go out onto the lower topsail yard. After lunch there was time for a quick run ashore for last minute souvenirs (or more rum punch). That afternoon we cast off the mooring lines leaving Nassau with the pilot on board a bit later than the planned 5pm departure. Aft starboard watch stood the 20.00 to midnight watch which was spectacular with thunder and lightening ahead of us on the horizon throughout the watch. On completion of the watch we handed over to the next watch.
Day 3
After breakfast we had the second emergency evacuation drill, the permanent crew then had a fire drill. \this was followed by smoko. After smoko we had happy hour cleaning the ship. Some people then stowed the square sails whilst others brought items of clothing from the ships shop. Back on watch at 12.30 the course altered as we approached Freeport on Grand Bahamas, we set up mooring lines ready for berthing.
