Back to the ship update blog

24/10/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 24/10/2012

Monday afternoon saw the oncoming voyage crew getting accustomed to their new surroundings on big T. After a brief introduction, a welcome from the skipper, dinner, everybody abandoned ship mustering in the Ferryman, albeit after the bosun's mates.

A few Guinnesses later some folk were needed back on board for harbour watches .Tuesday morning saw us wading into the normal fried offering from thr long serving Graham and his supporting galley slaves. This was followed by the intro talks from the first mate, the chief and Nursey Carol followed smartly with Evacuation drill and hands aloft.

Doti boat deployed, gangway in, we were off the wall by two, through the harbour bridge we made our way down theriver Liffey and out to the grey drizzle that was the Irish Sea. Then into the sail setting talks and demos and putting into practice what we thought we had just learned, braced the yards, set the fore lower top, courses, upper tops, jibs and stay sails, at last we felt we were sailing.

Time to eat yet again and Oh the winds veered, back into our oilies to reduce sail for our over voyage northwards to Troon. With the 'the luck of the Irish' tomorrow will see us sailing in fair winds and sunshine...
