Lord Nelson 25 Jan 11. LN 764 voyage
Hello shore watch.... A new crew are currently up on deck in the morning sun, gathered around the main and foremasts with those who are going aloft being helped into their harnesses.
Yesterday was joining day, and alot of instruction, action and meeting each other, after long days travelling for many. Everyone gathered for the essential briefing led by Captain Neil Duncan , 1st Mate Barry, 2nd Mate David, Bosun Marcin, Chief Eng Marco, 2nd Eng Alec, Cookie Dave with assistant Peter... 2 BMs Ned and Neil, Cadet Peter and myself, Jane, as Medical Purser.
Buffet supper was served inside , as we have bought a period of unsettled weather and " fresh " winds with us ! We were able to eat on deck however, before dispersing for wandering Las Palmas , showers , or just a quiet night in .
Harbour watches commenced at 22.00 and were uneventful .Weather watch not so good as we awoke to rain , not what we asked for..but a few dodgy lows are going to annoy us this week. Breakfast was hearty and taken by all as the holiday spirit kicks in .
Following a further voyage crew briefing , and permanent crew walkaround for new arrivals , there was smoko and another chance to enjoy yesterdays birthday cake..Happy Birthday Peter.
The weather is going to be a challenge and the Captain has pored over charts and weather maps .. and we have a plan !
SO ... after climbing and lunch we are planning to leave Las Palmas at 14.00 and head East initially ... the route will be revealed in the next update by the onduty watches...
Oilskins, shorts, and suncream are all ready as we prepare for any weather changes !Sun is still out now !
Wish you were here !! Jane F.
