25/02/2011 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 01/03/2011

Today has been an eventful day on Lord Nelson.  Being moored in the sheltered harbour of Santa Cruz in La Palma, we had our voyage photos taken then we had hands aloft to the fighting tops, assisting in raising the elderly and people not strong enough to climb unaided was good as everyone was happy to experience "laying aloft."  Then we had "smoko" with freshly baked rock cake from Dave and the Galley team, promptly followed by all hands to harbour stations for letting go. We succeeded in a difficult manoeuvre in sailing off the quay using the wind to swing us off. Settling down to our watch patterns we have sailed south east with a steady force 5 wind 6 points off our port bow. We aim to anchor off the south side of Gran Canaria tomorrow afternoon having passed the Islands of Gomera and Tenerife.  The weather is fine mostly sunny, clouds disappearing and its around 20 degrees centigrade in the shade.Cadet Tom.
