26/01/12 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 26/01/2012

We are having a great time maintaining! Yesterday was showery, so jobs got done below deck as well as on it. The chartroom door is sanded, and a lot of the rails are too...and as today is hot and sunny again, they should be varnished soon. Kirsten is sail repairing ashore, Will is mostly to be found in the food lift shaft, Rob is to be seen wearing a variety of outfits, tackling all manner of things, Katie continues to look like a model in her boiler suit whilst painting, and Rosie is sanding on the bridge.

Last night was great fun, despite most of us claiming to be on a diet, we all ate onboard, and Captain Chris toasted the wee haggis, after Rosie had said the traditional grace. Dave had excelled himself, we had an avocado starter with a whiskey based dressing, haggis, mashed potato and carrot, with leeks... The Canaries don't recognise the humble "neeps", so Dave sent cadet Will across to the (Swedish) ship, Christian Radich,to ask if they had any Swedes on board..Funnily enough, they hadn't...no turnips either!

To make sure that no one could move, we had a Scottish concoction of raspberries, whiskey, cream and oats for pudding.
Next came the Burns speeches, Alan, our Scottish engineer gave us some amusing facts about the man himself, Marcin made a gracious toast to the lasses, and Kate and Kirsten responded...with a somewhat racy toast to the lads.
After a swift clear up, Marco and Dave went to watch football in the square, and the rest of us slumped in the bar, did our laundry and lounged around.

So today is a birthday...card, presents, cake and singing...all before lunch...plus the delivery of two smart yellow wet vacs, bought from donations! The good news for the BMs is that we are keeping one just for the galley!
There is champagne chilling, and the promise of another fun evening ahead.
So hi ho...and back to work we go!
