26/08/12 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 26/08/2012

Following the 'Denmark,' we took our place in the parade, the bravest of us climbed the main & fore mast to untie sails. Following the parade to Dun laoghaire (possibly spelt wrong), all the ships (slowly but surely) set their sails and sailed down to the end ofthe parade. The finish line was marked by a shower of sea water from the tug boats. After this it was full speed ahead (with engines)at 9.6 knots to the Isle of Man so that the impending gale would not catch up with us. Anchor was dropped off Peel as the wind strength built and all turned in. A good calm night below but as forecast the gale came through and soon after breakfast it was blowing furiously and the swell started building. Sadly the weather held us at anchor until around tea time when the decision was made to stay where we were as the swell into Peel harbour was to big for comfort. After a very restful (and welcome) afternoon we all assembled in the bar for a gripping quiz. Our watch was victorious much to our delight. Tuesday morning finds us in bright sunshine and a brisk breeze and thankfully the swell has subsided. Up anchor and after 3 attempts we have tied up on the jetty in Peel harbour. Crew photos have been taken and we having an early lunch so that we can get ashore before the tide drops too low to be able to use the gangway. Everyone very happy to be able to get ashore. Katie sends her love to Mum and Dad Lionel, Katie, Anna & David (W/L) - Aft Starboard watch.
