Dated: 31/01/2011
I am on the leadership at sea programme. Our voyage is for 7 days and we are in day 4.After a rough night sail from las palmas we have reached fuerteventura. We spent a very easy night at the port where we all went asshore last night after arriving. The weather has been great today with some showers.
Many people are going asshore again before we leave the port. We are then going to sail throughout the night to lanzarote, which the plan is to arrive tomorrow late morning and to anchor off shore. There's the availabilty of going for a swim (which I will be doing)and also going on a rib back to the shore in lanzarote. The watch I am in, are to be on watch from 6pm to 8pm tonight and being on the leadership at sea I am to take responsibility of the watch whilst we are sailing, giving them duties.
We have now left the port in Fuerteventura, we had the wind directly behind us which gave us the opportunity to sail off the port rather than using the engine. This is a rare thing to see in sailing and was a great achievement to have this opportunity and for the captain to make the decision. I was a linesman during leaving the port, where I had to go on shore and let off the lines for the boat to move away. This was the greatest moment of the whole voyage to stand back and see everyone pulling together to raise the sails and would be a memory not to forget for a long time.
We are now under full sails and sailing out to lanzarote. Dee Edworthy.
