Back to the ship update blog

28/01/13 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 29/01/2013

'Strayalia' day yesterday was celebrated with a Milford/Wales vs Aussie Port side mid ship cricket match. excellent stumps made by Seb and a collective effort for the ball (on a string) the rules were: 4 to hit the ball into the sailor strainers, 6 over the side 1 per run, -100 if ANYTHING broken. The Phillip brother's taking it very seriously, eventually James Bowling out Christopher for a very respectable score with Cate throwing herself at his feet to try and stump him out. Final score Wales beat Australia 80 to 61!

As one watch is now down to 4 members an open ship watch was held at 20:00 on the bridge for any crew to sample the delights of being in the best watch. Eventually there were 24 signed up members (only 2 were stuffed animals) They all had the delights of AP name bands, AFT PORT tattoos (our previous members were well tattooed), 'T' somehow mistakenly wrote DAFT PORT on my knuckles. There was drinks (red or white), biscuits and choc flapjack. Everyone got to try 5mins on the helm, including captain, engineers, volunteers, cadets etc. Cate dressed  in a batman onesie. The Rifles bear was assigned the role of captain for the watch. was Amazing sunset with a sundog (a sort of rainbow/sun shadow).  The evening culminated in a sing song by the light of the full moon with Malcolm on guitar and Chris regaling us with his interesting repertoire of 'sea shanties'.

Liz Watch leader of the expanding Aft Port (not to do with Derek's cooking)

Liz has just confessed to have read a whole book, (Alice's adventures in Wonderland).

Is this where she gets her watch leader skills from? So far no "Off with his head", but we still have a few days to go!
