Thursday 9th December. Our big news is that we finally set sail yeste rday afternoon leaving Las Palmas, head on in a strong south west win d but with a great sunset and views of the island.
When we came on wa tch at 8pm until midnight we were greeted by a star spangled sky and by Jupiter himself. For all of us it took a while to adjust to night vision after so many days in port. Although there was no moon we mana ged to find our way around the ship without too much trouble. Today i s only 23 degrees centigrade but we are looking forward to conditions improving. Smoko treats so far have included Graham s homemade ginger cookies and a fantastic birthday cake for Emma a.k.a. Saucey. Harry h as been behaving himself so far but this situation is not expected to continue for long. Spirits were high this morning as we set the fore and aft sails, the first ones of the trip, but the wind gods were not with us and we had to take them down soon after. We hope to finish mo toring within a couple of days. It would be nice to have the odd clou d as protection against the relentless sun. Are you getting our drift ?
