TV presenter and Vice Patron of the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) Peter Snow has picked up a cheque for over £23,400 at the Earls Court Boat Show on behalf of the Hampshire based sailing charity, after it was nominated a recipient charity by the organisers of the Little Britain Challenge Cup (LBCC) for the 18th year running.
The LBCC, which is the property and construction industry regatta held off Cowes, Isle of Wight, has raised almost £500,000 for the JST over 18 years of support.
LBCC Chairman for 2010, David Smith presented a cheque to JST vice patron and television presenter, Peter Snow who said, “The JST changes lives through its work integrating able bodied and disabled people, there is nothing quite like the relationship you build with your fellow crewmembers whilst facing the challenge of sailing a magnificent traditional square rigged ship.”
The Little Britain Challenge Cup first held in 1988 is the biggest regatta in England after Skandia Cowes Week and is the biggest European industry event. Over three days of this year’s competition an incredible 3,000 sailors descended on Cowes in 250 yachts, competing in a total of 12 different classes.
The event is organised by a team of volunteers, the Little Britain Challenge Cup Committee who work in the property and construction industry.
Amanda Butcher, Chief Executive of the Jubilee Sailing Trust said, “The Little Britain Challenge Cup is one of the countries most prestigious regattas and this is thanks to the hard work and dedication of the LBCC organisation Committee.”
“Every year the LBCC Committee succeeds in delivering an amazing sailing regatta and raising tens of thousands for charities like the Jubilee Sailing Trust. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has been involved in with the LBCC and for all their support they continue to give to the JST.”
The LBCC Committee also presented cheques to – Cirdan Sailing Trust, the Ellen MacArthur Trust and representatives of the Skandia Team GBR Paralympic Sailing Team.
The cheque presentation took place at the Main Stage at the Earls Court Boat Show on Wednesday 26th November 2008.
